Photographers are being encouraged to focus on wildlife as part of a competition launched on 16th April. The winner will have a chance to capture shots of altogether different animals if they win the prize of a holiday for two, to see the scenery and endangered wildlife in Malaysia.
The Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society competition was launched at the Spey Bay wildlife centre. Entries must be in by September. The national competition has two categories, the first of which is Marine Wildlife. Judges are looking for photographs of sea creatures captured anywhere in the world. The second involves threats to the marine environment, and the society hopes to gather photographic evidence of the problems marine mammals such as whales and dolphins face in the UK and abroad. Dolphin field officer Charlie Phillips, who is one of the judges, said similar competitions in the past had attracted a massive range of entries. “Some of them, and not only the professional ones, are really quite amazing,” he said. “People have amazing eyes for a picture, especially some of the kids. I’m thoroughly looking forward to it.”Centre manager Hannah Bird said all entries would be displayed at an exhibition at Spey Bay in September. She said:” Were encouraging people to get out there and have an experiment, and especially for the theme of trying to show people what the problems are. We can use the photos and, hopefully, make it a better place for the wildlife here.” The competition was launched as part of a series of special events over the Easter weekend, including environmental art sessions for children. Full information on submitting an entry and details of events planned at the centre are available on 01343 820339. Sarah Rollo P&J Apr 17th |
