Maggie Fair draws ever near and work gets serious. Those who attended the Saturday at Michael Kitchen's studio had a great day. Some worked indoors and others outside and though the sun shone it was pretty cold, but a good experience just the same and his wife makes great Lasagne and Rhubarb Crumble!
Throughout the winter members Betty Mitchell and Betty Sinclair have worked hard to provide interesting subjects for still-life painting and our thanks go to both ladies. We had our fundraising Spring Art Fest on 22nd April which was a successful morning and thanks go to all the members who contributed to the day with donations for the bottle, plant and/or baking stalls and to those who manned the stalls and served teas. Thanks too to Beatrice Low for the pancakes made in situ in the kitchen and thanks to Eleanor and Dode Mason and Jim for manning the lollipop tray and bottle stall. We held our art competition for the little ones once more. There were a couple of apologies from families on holiday that week-end and we did have support from a couple of young families but not one of the SIX prize winners was present. Such a shame. Again, the children put a great deal of effort, enthusiasm and imagination into their work. Last Thursday was the AGM and though there were several apologies tendered beforehand the sum total attending was six! As a founder member I think that's the worst turn out I've seen. However, undeterred, we decided we met the needed quorum and continued regardless. Our next outing is to Millbuies on June 1st, meet in car park at 11am & bring a picnic. Pleeese let it be a good day. Then we have one more still life on the 15th before we hang the exhibition for Maggie Fair on Thursday 22nd June opening that night 7-9pm. Same for Friday 23rd 7-9pm and then open as usual on Maggie Fair at 1.30 - 5pm Saturday 24th June. Let's hope everyone has a warm and successful summer. P Bingham. |
