The AGM will be held on Sunday 26th Feb at 2pm in the ante-room of the village hall and we look forward to welcoming new faces in addition to the more familiar ones.  Work is already afoot for preparation of the green for the opening at the beginning of May. We look forward to continuing to provide coffee and home bakes at the car boot events in the park once again, and are grateful for this opportunity.  I have no doubt that, with the exception of the Golf Club, the Bowling Club has the highest annual outlay of all the village amenities.  We have the machinery servicing, the grass treatments and a hefty Public Indemnity insurance to contend with each year and costs rise each time.
The level of fundraising we require is heavy for so few members, so every little bit helps.  We did apply for to two sources for grants last year.  Sadly without success.
One because we did not fit the criteria and the second because other groups in Garmouth had already been adequately funded.
However, against the odds, and with occasional assistance from the amenities towards mower service, we have managed to scrap through despite even our own predictions of doom and gloom.  We now enter our 6th year of bowls since the club was allegedly ‘FINISHED’ in 2000.  But we still desperately need to swell the ranks with new members – there is nothing fussy or formal about our lot.  If you’ve never bowled before, don’t worry, we will show you how.  There are no special competitions, just friendly fun on a summer’s evening is all that’s wanted, so think about it – no experience needed and plenty spare bowls for you to come along and have a throw any Monday or Thursday evening (weather permitting) after the opening in May.  The date of the opening will be posted.  Take note and come along and watch.  If you decide to join there’s even a FREE dram!  So, see you then.
And finally the bowlers will be collecting in March for  their bottle store in aid of their fundraising.
